YURY FATEEV, BALLETMASTER
Yury Fateev was born in 1964 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg).
In 1982 graduated Vaganova Ballet Academy, and same year joined Mariinsky Theatre as ballet dancer. In 1995 started his teaching career in the Mariinsky Theater, which includes daily company classes, individual works with soloists and corps de ballet members.
Since 2003 Yury Fateev is ballet master and coach of the Mariinsky Theater Ballet. He works in the close cooperation with George Balanchine Trust, and in charge of all the Balanchine’s ballets staged in the Mariinsky (Apollo, Serenade, the Prodigal Son, Jewels, Four Temperaments, Ballet Imperial, Theme and Variations). He has been assistant to John Neumayer, William Forsythe, and Roland Petit during staging period at the Mariinsky Theatre. Works with the leading dances of the theater on the classic repertoire. Has a large experience in teaching and putting on stage the Russian classic ballets in the Pacific Northwest Ballet (Seattle), Danish Royal Ballet, and the Swedish Royal Ballet, as well as in the Greece National Theater, and the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. Worked with ballet stars such as Svetlana Zakharova, Darcy Bassel, Diana Vishneva, Igor Zelensky, Andrian Fadeev, Ethan Stiefel, Gillian Murphy, Nikolay Thsiskaridze, Roberto Bolle, Johan Kobborg, and Vladimir Malakhov. Since 2006 ballet master for Kings of the Dance project. In 2008 Yury Fateev was appointed as Interim Ballet Director of the Mariinsky Theatre.
